The Rockingham House Residential Conversion marks a significant step in Sheffield’s urban development. This project involved converting a vacant office building into 162 luxury studio apartments with a two-storey rooftop extension, including ground-floor support spaces.
Bond Bryan led the project from feasibility studies through to planning submission, delivering a design that redefines urban accommodation while respecting the site’s context.
Located in the Birmingham ward of Edgbaston, 29 Harrisons Road was the first of several appointments with Calthorpe Estates to achieve full planning consent in October 2024.
The 32-dwelling residential scheme consisted of a four-storey apartment block and four townhouses on a challenging brownfield site in a suburban setting.
Originally built over woodland, Kitchener Barracks is steeped in military history dating back to the 1700s. The site has undergone several transformations throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, with many of the original buildings replaced over time. Today, Kitchener Barracks stands as a Grade II listed building, an enduring symbol of Chatham’s maritime heritage. Chatham, located in the Medway district of Kent, boasts a rich history of over 400 years and remains a key maritime destination in the UK.
Given the site’s historical significance and its role in the local community, the regeneration of Kitchener Barracks was no small task. In partnership with Tophat, our challenge was to sensitively blend the old with the new— preserving the essence of the site’s military past while delivering modern, high-quality homes for a new generation of residents. The result is a development that not only honours the history of the barracks but also enhances the future of this vibrant community.
