Revitalising Elland Town Centre: A future high street transformation.

Bond Bryan’s masterplan for Elland Town Centre redefines the high street’s role in the modern urban landscape. By weaving together sustainable design, heritage preservation, and community focused planning, the project delivers a thriving, connected town centre that balances economic vitality with social and environmental responsibility.

Value

Bond Bryan created significant value by delivering a comprehensive masterplan that addresses Elland’s immediate and future needs. Through detailed collaboration with Calderdale Council and extensive community engagement, the project ensured local voices were heard and incorporated. The introduction of a new train station as a critical infrastructure improvement enhanced regional connectivity, boosting Elland’s accessibility for both residents and visitors.

Heritage conservation was skilfully integrated with the development of affordable and open-market housing, ensuring the preservation of Elland’s unique character while supporting modern living. By identifying and leveraging Elland’s impressive commercial potential, the masterplan ensures long-term economic stability.

Impact

The masterplan’s impacts are far-reaching. Socially, it strengthens Elland’s community identity by enhancing public spaces and a sense of belonging. Economically, the project attracts visitors, bolsters local businesses, and sets the stage for ongoing investment, reinvigorating Elland’s high street.

Environmentally, the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings and sustainable public realm design prioritises green practices, reducing carbon emissions and encouraging eco-friendly urban living. The regeneration establishes Elland as a model for how small towns can successfully navigate contemporary challenges.

Sustainability

Collaboration with Turner & Townsend enabled the creation of a robust business case rooted in data driven analysis, ensuring deliverability from inception. Sustainability was embedded in the design process, with a focus on spatial efficiency and green urban solutions that minimise environmental impact.

This approach not only saved time on-site but also supported broader climate goals by integrating sustainability into the town’s urban fabric.

Elland’s regeneration masterplan demonstrates how thoughtful design and strategic planning can revitalise a high street, enhancing community connection, economic growth, and sustainable development.
