Roger Newman Promoted to Head of Strategic Consultancy
Bond Bryan strengthens strategic consultancy offer with Roger Newman promoted to Head of Strategic Consultancy
Bond Bryan has promoted Roger Newman to Head of Strategic Consultancy, recognising his leadership in helping clients make better estate decisions through strategic, evidence-led advice and reinforcing the practice’s continued investment in strategic consultancy.
The promotion reflects the growing importance of early-stage advisory services as organisations navigate increasingly complex decisions around investment, estate performance, sustainability and long-term growth. Rather than beginning with buildings, Bond Bryan’s approach starts by understanding organisational ambitions, ensuring estates become a catalyst for better outcomes.
Meet Roger
With more than 25 years’ experience advising universities, colleges and the public sector, Roger has become one of the UK’s most experienced strategic advisers in the education sector, helping organisations align their estates with long-term educational, financial and organisational ambitions. His work spans strategic estate planning, campus strategies, masterplanning, space utilisation and capital investment planning, enabling clients to make confident, evidence-led decisions before design begins.
Roger has built long-standing relationships with education providers across the UK, acting as a trusted strategic adviser to organisations such as Bradford College (more than 15 years), Loughborough College (10 years), Nottingham College (more than 10 years) and The Manchester College (eight years). He has also worked with some of the UK’s largest multi-campus education providers, including Newcastle College Group, where he has supported estate strategy across several colleges, as well as Capital City College Group and DN Colleges Group.
Throughout his career, Roger has built long-standing partnerships with education providers, helping them shape estates that evolve alongside changing educational priorities, funding opportunities and organisational ambitions. The successful delivery of Bradford Future Technologies Centre is a powerful example of how long-term strategic thinking, trusted relationships and a shared vision can unlock investment and translate ambitious estate strategies into places that transform learning, support communities and deliver lasting value.
A defining feature of Roger’s work has been helping colleges identify, shape and secure capital funding opportunities. Over the past five years alone, he has supported more than 50 capital funding applications, developing robust business cases and estate strategies that have helped colleges secure investment, modernise their estates and create facilities that better support learners, staff and their wider communities.
As Head of Strategic Consultancy, Roger will continue to lead the practice's growing advisory offer, working alongside clients to develop evidence-led strategies that maximise estate value, reduce risk and create places that enable long-term economic growth.
Roger Newman, Head of Strategic Consultancy, said:
“One of the most rewarding parts of my career has been the long-standing relationships I’ve built with colleges and universities. Working alongside clients over many years gives you a real understanding of their ambitions, the challenges they face and how their estates need to evolve to support them.
It’s about listening, asking the right questions and helping organisations make confident decisions that will deliver value for years to come. Whether that’s making the most of existing estates, planning for future growth or creating environments that enhance learning, research and community impact, the best outcomes come from working in partnership. I’m proud to be leading our Strategic Consultancy team as we continue to help clients unlock the full potential of their estates.”
As education providers continue to balance financial pressures, decarbonisation targets, evolving teaching methods and changing student expectations, strategic estate planning has never been more important. Bond Bryan works with universities, colleges and public sector organisations to assess existing estates, identify opportunities for adaptation and investment, and develop strategies that maximise the value of every asset.
The Strategic Consultancy team also supports local authorities, developers and other organisations to unlock development opportunities, optimise existing assets and create evidence-based strategies that provide confidence for future decision-making. By combining strategic thinking with technical delivery expertise, Bond Bryan helps clients move confidently from vision to implementation.
Bruce Raw, Director at Bond Bryan, said:
“Roger’s promotion reflects both his expertise and the increasing importance of strategic consultancy to our clients. Organisations are looking for trusted advisers who can help them navigate complexity and make informed decisions before projects begin.
Roger has become a trusted adviser to many of our long-standing education clients, helping them develop clear strategies, secure investment and make confident decisions that deliver lasting value. Under his leadership, we’ll continue to strengthen our strategic consultancy offer, supporting clients from early strategic thinking through to successful delivery across education and the wider built environment.”
Roger’s promotion reflects Bond Bryan’s continued investment in integrated strategic consultancy, bringing together estate strategy, masterplanning, architecture, sustainability and technical delivery.
Today, the practice supports more than 40 Further Education colleges, alongside universities, local authorities and public sector organisations across the UK. By combining strategic consultancy with architecture, sustainability and technical delivery, Bond Bryan helps clients move confidently from vision to implementation – creating places that deliver lasting educational, social, economic and environmental value.
