Achilles Therapeutics, Sycamore House
Achilles Therapeutics’ laboratory facility has been designed to support specialist therapeutics research, bringing together process development and quality control (QC) laboratories within a carefully planned environment.
The refurbishment combines highly technical laboratory spaces with modern workplace amenities, creating a facility that supports both scientific research and the people behind it.
Value
The laboratory is organised around two distinct research functions: process development and quality control. Separate laboratories serve each discipline, while shared storage and administration spaces have been carefully planned to provide clear operational zoning and maintain compliance across the facility.
On the first floor, an open-plan office provides workspace for 48 staff, supported by acoustically treated meeting rooms, a breakout kitchenette and privacy booths for confidential conversations and focused work. Together, these spaces create an environment that encourages collaboration while accommodating the varied ways teams work throughout the day.
Delivered within a live, occupied building, the refurbishment was completed to a demanding programme while other works continued on site. Careful planning and coordination ensured the project was delivered efficiently with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
The completed facility includes:
- Ground-floor research laboratories
- Process development and quality control laboratory suites
- Freezer room
- Storage areas
- First-floor open-plan office with breakout area
- Acoustically treated meeting rooms
- Privacy booths
