A significant refurbishment and upgrade across the entire campus, crafting a central ‘heartspace’ that redefined campus life.

Extensive remodelling to create a new social hub, a performance venue, and a modern library, with the guiding objective of building a cohesive space that would not only connect various campus buildings but would also become the heart of student activity and engagement.

Value

Our Churn Management team coordinated phased construction to ensure a seamless transition, allowing uninterrupted university operations.

This well-executed phasing, coupled with our user-focused design, improved the campus experience, aligning with UWL’s standards and enhancing greater student engagement.

Bond Bryan were key to helping us make that vision a reality, and their world-class design work was instrumental to the project’s success.
Impact

Given its location in a conservation area, the project’s success hinged on fostering a positive relationship with the local community. Engaging early with local groups and conservation stakeholders allowed us to preserve the site’s heritage while introducing essential modern amenities.

The addition of a performance venue and social spaces not only supports student life but also enhances Ealing’s cultural offerings, drawing locals to university events. This integration of community focused spaces has revitalised the area, making the campus a welcoming, shared space that reinforces UWL’s role as an anchor institution within the neighbourhood

Sustainability

The atrium was designed to maximize daylight, enhancing energy efficiency and creating bright, welcoming spaces that support student well-being. Durable, low-impact materials were chosen to align with UWL’s long-term sustainability goals.

Flexible spaces were incorporated to adapt to changing educational needs, positioning the campus for the future and minimizing the need for future modifications. This approach ensures that UWL’s campus remains both sustainable and functional, balancing ecological responsibility with modern design.
