ION Trading Headquarters
The ION Trading Headquarters transforms a dated 1980’s office building into a technically adept, high-performance workspace that enhances creative collaboration, attracts global talent, and promotes sustainability.
Value
Embracing a strong minimalist, industrial aesthetic, the ION Headquarters design provides value in delivering a sophisticated environment to attract talent and entertain clients. A range of interior design features are used throughout the project to create an atmospheric yet effective working ecosystem: the restored concrete waffle ceilings adds a textured warmth complementing the modern finishes, adding a sense of homeliness to the industrial palette.
Subtle accents of burnished metal guide visitors intuitively, blending utility with visual elegance, while advanced systems and hidden acoustic treatments ensure technical performance and exceptional sound quality. These elements seamlessly integrate with the design to preserve its clean, cohesive aesthetic.
“The completed project has been positively received by senior management and clients. The delivery of this project with all the pandemic challenges is an exceptional achievement by all involved.”
Impact
The new ION headquarters design creates an environment that promotes collaboration and productivity. Strategically designed zones with varying light qualities connect and distinguish each space, with atmospheres tailored for different work settings that can ebb and flow with the business’ needs.
The layout uses orientation to manipulate light and shade, transitioning from the darker, intimate reception area to collaborative insulator spaces, then culminating in a new trading floor at the heart of the office with expansive views of the river Thames—balancing energy and calm to encourage collaboration and creativity.
Sustainability
Alongside the implementation of standard eco-friendly practices, such as the monitoring of waste and use of energy-efficient fittings, the ION project took a more active approach to the reuse of excess materials and contribution to the local community by participating in multiple local initiatives.
Surplus materials were donated to local schools to support woodworking projects, pallets were transformed into bird boxes to promote local wildlife, and a partnership was established with Trees for Life to create an E-grove to offset site emissions. Sustainability was also carefully considered and pre-planned with the inclusion of facilities to support sustainable commuting and the implementation of effective recycling systems through engagement with Paper Round.
