Sector Advanced Manufacturing, Science & Innovation
Client Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd

Developed in collaboration with Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd, the iMET facility at Huntingdonshire Regional College is designed to support economic growth by providing advanced vocational training in manufacturing, engineering, and technology.

Value

The iMET building was designed with a clear vision of long-term impact. Our collaboration with Huntingdonshire Regional College involved extensive consultation with stakeholders to ensure the facility would meet current and future needs. The result is a versatile 2,400m² space, featuring double-height workshops for large-scale training and smaller rooms for specialised sessions.

The design also includes flexible collaboration areas to encourage teamwork and innovation. This adaptable building will support the engineering and manufacturing sectors, ensuring it remains a valuable resource for evolving industry demands.

Impact

Situated within the Alconbury Weald Regeneration Development, iMET is central to the area’s growth. The facility plays a pivotal role in equipping a skilled workforce for local industries, supporting both economic resilience and individual career advancement.

By encouraging a symbiotic relationship between education and employment, iMET encourages lifelong learning and upskilling. As the community around it continues to grow, the facility is poised to serve as a catalyst for regional development, offering businesses and individuals the tools they need to succeed.

We partnered with the college to create a space that combines functionality with inspiration. With a focus on fostering innovation and industry partnerships, the iMET building is strategically positioned to play a key role in the region’s workforce development.
Sustainability

Sustainability was central to the design of the iMET building. We incorporated sustainable materials and energy-efficient systems that meet BREEAM standards, helping reduce the building’s carbon footprint. The building’s orientation maximises natural light and ventilation, reducing reliance on artificial heating and cooling.

This focus on sustainability extends to the educational philosophy of iMET, where students are encouraged to embrace environmentally responsible practices in their future careers. By integrating sustainability into both the physical design and the curriculum, iMET serves as a model for the next generation of engineers and technologists.
