The new Sixth Form Study Centre will provide study support areas for the school’s sixth form students. Currently, Tonbridge Grammar School is the UK’s top International Baccalaureate school and this new Centre will ensure that its students are able to access the best possible learning environments.
The school’s aspiration is to grow in size and to increase the numbers of boys attending the school in the final two years;
they were previously located in a dilapidated old library at the back of the school. By demolishing the existing pool house and building over the old swimming pool, the new Centre is at the heart of the school.
Roan were appointed to deliver the project – as a hybrid modular scheme – in order to achieve the school’s programme and cost targets. The simple portal frame is clad in zinc with a fully glazed west elevation to showcase the Sixth Form Centre’s position at the heart of the school.
The existing building is to be fully refurbished with the operational accommodation and appliance bays being retained at ground floor level.
Factory 2050 is the UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing facility for collaborative research.
