Factory 2050 is the UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing facility for collaborative research; an environment where the University’s 70 strong team could focus on the academic research and demonstration work associated with building the next generation of aircraft and energy technologies.

The brief for this project was complex and involved creating a highly specialist facility also matched in its flexibility.  Doing so meant designing a building able to meet the rapidly changing demands of the Advanced Manufacturing sector, and was therefore highly flexible; capable of rapidly switching production between different high-value components and parts.
