Commercial Project

The Innovation Centre, at the Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone, aims to bring together start-up and incubator business from the sector. The design includes the creation of a new four-storey office block, comprising collaboration space, hot desking, meeting and conference space. The building form and layout are a response to the brief, context and the priciples of the masterplan.

The design aims to create an economic and flexible solution that will, nevertheless create a distinctive, high-quality addition to the campus which reflects the importance of the new facility. The design also seeks to encourage collaboration and cross-fertilization through the extensive use of internal glazing, meeting pods and social hubs on all floors. Clad in a distinctive perforated screen, local ragstone and a living green wall, it aims to minimise running costs to support the economic sustainability of the centre as well as reducing its impact on the environment.

Bond Bryan Director, Zubin Masters, explained: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Maidstone Borough Council and the team to develop the designs for the Innovation Centre. It is without a doubt a real testament to the teams’ efforts to date and we now look forward to seeing this unique facility come to fruition. The design aims to create a high quality and adaptable solution that also creates an architecturally distinctive addition to the campus, reflecting the importance of the new facility to the region.”
