Aston Fire Station is a Grade II Listed building which is currently being used as an operational fire station. The redevelopment includes a new-build extension – constructed alongside the existing building and connected to it using a glazed atrium link – that accommodates modern staff welfare space and office accommodation. This glazed link creates an architectural dialogue between the new and the old, whilst offering views – of the Listed Building and the fire service in operation – to the public and any site visitors.
The existing building was fully refurbished with the operational accommodation and appliance bays being retained at ground floor level with adjacent accommodation being reconfigured to include a new community library and heritage museum display space on the upper floors.
With a complex brief to adhere to, Bond Bryan were able to create a building both unique in its varying forms and highly significant to its dual functions.
Factory 2050 is the UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing facility for collaborative research.
