The Burton & South Derbyshire UTC Academy Trust is a University Technical College capable of accommodating 600 students in the age range of 14 – 19. Opened in September 2015, this UTC specialises in teaching both Biomedical Science and Engineering. The educational sponsors for the UTC were Coventry University and Burton & South Derbyshire College; they worked in tandem with employer sponsors such as Nestlé, the Royal Derby Hospital, the Football Association, Perform at St. George’s Park, and a wide range of other regional employer partners.
This brand-new 5,400m2 UTC sits very close to the train station at King Edward Place – utilising, remodelling, and refurbishing the existing Town Hall Annex building with new-build extensions parallel to Waterloo Street.
The existing building is to be fully refurbished with the operational accommodation and appliance bays being retained at ground floor level.
Factory 2050 is the UK’s first fully reconfigurable assembly and component manufacturing facility for collaborative research.
