The Thanet Free School is a brand-new six-form entry secondary school, with a separate provision for SEN, in the heart of Margate.
The modular volumetric construction approach was investigated, in collaboration with modularsubcontractors, in order to understand the requirements – and establish effectively and early on – the principles of the construction.
The external materials’ palette has been minimised to create a simple architectural languagewhich is compliant with, and optimised, for modular construction. The aim is to create a robust, cost-effective solution and a building with architectural integrity and presence within the site that will offer a timeless contemporary learning environment that requires minimal maintenance.
The new Sixth Form Study Centre will provide study support areas for the school’s sixth form students.
The project was challenging: to bring together information from three different authoring tools and create one consistent output.
