Further Education Project

Building area 7,000m2

Contract period 2013 – 2015

Project value £12m

Built upon a tight and busy urban site, Barnsley College’s new Sixth Form Centre provides a wide variety of teaching and learning facilities at the heart of Barnsley’s town centre.  Having been offered a high-profile site adjacent to the Grade II listed Town Hall, a key challenge lay in balancing the College’s vision for a contemporary landmark building with the need to respond sensitively to the site’s historic context and important position within the wider town centre masterplan.

Through hard work, detailed design plus strong end-user and stakeholder consultation, we achieved the actualisation of the client’s aspirations in giving them an iconic, landmark building to act as an effective ‘shop front’ for the whole of Barnsley College.
