Associate Director

Introduction

We are looking for an enthusiastic, Associate Director level Architect with the drive and ambition to help us grow our Birmingham Studio. Working with our Birmingham Director and Associate Director, you will be playing a major role in our newest studio, delivering projects, promote and help expand our West Midlands focused studio.

We are an award-winning practice, working out of 4 studios across the country. Our Birmingham studio, working with our wider Bond Bryan team are delivering many high-profile projects across in the West Midlands. We are looking for the right person to manage the studio, deliver projects and help recruit the best team to create a fully operational studio.

Do you have experience of delivering large projects and managing client relationships? Are you a good communicator and motivator? Do you have a good knowledge of the West Midlands construction market, consultants and local clients? Are you a self-starter, who can work well both independently and as part of a team to manage others to deliver a great service?

In our Birmingham Studio you will be working on a range of fantastic architectural projects from conceptual stage through to completion using your extensive knowledge of UK standards, design and construction principles to deliver high quality projects. Job Role

The senior role in the Birmingham studio is to deliver commissions with the team, while helping to develop new business in the West Midlands region. You will be working closely with our Director and Associate Director, together with our team in the Sheffield Studio to support the growth of our most recently created Studio in Birmingham. 

Bond Bryan opened the Birmingham Studio over 6 years ago and has continued to grow the workload within the West Midlands region. We have invested considerable time and energy into the region and now need an Associate Director to help us build on Bond Bryan’s successes in the region.

Currently a number of the projects are delivered by teams based in the Sheffield Studio, with front end client management undertaken from the Birmingham studio. We are now looking to recruit to create a fully functioning Birmingham Studio, scaled to deliver the projects we have secured. 

The practice utilises ARCHICAD and Solibri as their primary authoring software and while a working knowledge of these would be preferable, experience of other software platforms is equally valuable. Training will be provided.

Under the guidance of our Birmingham Director and Associate Director the Associate Director will: 

  • Develop, maintain and deliver projects with the team from the Birmingham Studio 
  • Act as the key point of contact for the studio for the projects
  • Support the senior team to help recruit the best new staff into the Birmingham Studio
  • Support the business development within the region to win projects
  • Maintain close communications with the senior team
  • Report progress against agreed aims and objectives for the studio

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties will develop over time and the successful candidate will be a keen learner who will be able to develop their own skills to encompass these aspects: 

  • Be able to take responsibility for running / working on one or more projects within the studio under an Associate Director or Director
  • Undertake client meetings both with members of the wider team and independently
  • Support the Directors and Associate Directors within the studio to continue to grow the business
  • Lead a number of people on projects as the Studio develops
  • Promote design and delivery excellence in everything we do in alignment with Bond Bryan’s objectives
  • Provide regular project and staff updates to Directors and Associate Directors 
  • Participate in project reviews and interviews when requested
  • Assist Directors and Associate Directors when required on bids and events

It is anticipated that right candidate will work with the Directors and Associate Directors to develop this senior role in Birmingham, taking over some duties currently undertaken by others. There is significant scope for a proactive ambitious person to engage with development of the Birmingham studio and help grow their own role as part of the goals of the practice. This will require an engaged individual with a curious mind who is able to marry the business opportunities with the demands of project delivery in a busy practice.

    • Encourages creativity, stretches and develops others. Values people as individuals, shows respect and positive regard for others. 
    • Able to promote a positive image of the organisation and represent the Birmingham Studio both internally and externally
