A fundamental shift in how buildings are designed, procured and delivered

Driven by technological advancements and a need for expedient delivery – as well as being backed by government – prefabrication and offsite construction is gaining momentum and is set to revolutionise the construction industry. Bond Bryan view the rise of Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) as an opportunity to engage with the construction industry as it evolves to a fundamental shift in how buildings are designed, procured and delivered. As such, we have
fully embraced this shift to designing for off-site construction using principles of design for manufacture and assembly.

While the overall benefits of this shift are well understood – safer, faster, less wasteful, better quality, more sustainable, and so on – extracting the maximum value from a design perspective is less well understood, and, as such, presents us designers with significant but exciting challenges and opportunities. It offers significant opportunities for us as designers not only to adapt and evolve but also, to achieve better development and design outcomes.
